The popular Out of the Sea and Over the Coals promotion will return this summer to feature Prince Edward Island seafood at summer festivals and events across the province, says Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries Alan McIsaac.
“Over the summer months, Prince Edward Island is home to many festivals and events that draw large crowds of Islanders and tourists. These events are a great opportunity to showcase our province’s seafood products and increase demand and knowledge about their high quality,” said Minister McIsaac. “While we are working hard to develop new markets for Prince Edward Island seafood, we recognize the value of promoting our seafood here at home and supporting those who work in the industry.”
Out of the Sea and Over the Coals has been in operation for more than 20 years. Two summer students travel to fairs, exhibitions, national and provincial parks, Tourism PEI Visitor Information Centres, campgrounds, and other tourist areas in the province demonstrating how to barbeque seafood and offering samples such as lobsters, mussels, oysters, quahogs and halibut. They also give out recipes and answer questions about buying, storing and preparing seafood.
“Our fishing and aquaculture sectors are the backbone of many Island communities creating jobs and economic growth for our province,” said Minister McIsaac. “The department will continue to support initiatives and programs that promote our Island seafood products locally, nationally and internationally.”
