Official Opening of Art Exhibit at Fanningbank

Her Honour, the Honourable Barbara A. Hagerman, Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island, officially opened the 2008 Art Exhibit at Government House entitled “A Young View of Island Acadian History.” The project was produced in collaboration with the Confederation Centre Art Gallery.

This is the second summer an Art Exhibit has been held at Fanningbank. The focus this year is to mark the 250th anniversary of the deportation of the Acadians.

“This exhibit is another way to make new connections between young people and the Office of the Lieutenant Governor and Government House,” states Her Honour.

School-aged children from Grades 1-12 were invited to submit artwork based on two themes: a representation of the deportation of Acadians or a representation of the contemporary success of Acadians on Prince Edward Island. The artwork, representing different age categories, was selected through a jury process and will be displayed at Government from now until September 26, 2008.
