The PEI Office of Public Safety is advising Islanders that the track of Hurricane Kyle has shifted somewhat to the east and this may bring its path closer to Prince Edward Island.
At this time, there has been no tropical storm watch or warning for the province but tropical storm warnings issued for Moncton and southeastern New Brunswick suggest that PEI could be hit with higher winds and heavier rainfall than first predicted, particularly in the region from Crapaud to North Cape, said Aaron Campbell, Director of Public Safety. We are encouraging Islanders to prepare for the potential of severe weather.
The Joint Emergency Operations Centre in Charlottetown will be activated with staff from the PEI Office of Public Safety and Public Safety Canada at 8:00 pm Sunday, to allow for enhanced monitoring of the weather event.
We have been in touch with Maritime Electric, the PEI Chapter of the Canadian Cross, the Central Task Team and Public Safety Canada and will be closely monitoring the situation, said Campbell.
