New West Prince Visitor Information Centre Officially Opened

* Tourism [to Jan 2010]
Tourism PEI Minister, Greg Deighan, joined Transportation and Public Works Minister, Don MacKinnon, and the President of the Western Prince Edward Island Tourism Association, Doreen Sark, yesterday in officially opening the new West Prince Visitor Information Centre on Route 2 in Mount Pleasant.

The new facility located on Route 2 in Mount Pleasant provides improved access and visibility as well as an expanded parking area which better accommodates recreational vehicles and motorcoach.

"We have already experienced an increase in visitation to the Visitor Centre over last year," noted Minister Deighan. "There has been great response from visitors about the centre, and everyone feels it is a wonderful and positive greeting to the western area of Prince Edward Island."

The facility itself is full of local images and wordmarks aimed at promoting western PEI and enticing visitors to explore the area and stay for longer periods of time, investigating the myriad of experiences in the western end of the Island.

The Visitor Information Centre is air conditioned and designed to be very welcoming and comfortable to anyone who comes through the doors. State of the art alarm systems have been put in place, ensuring that the integrity of the building is not in jeopardy and maintaining a secure area for everyone to enjoy.

"We have worked very closely with the Department of Transportation and Public Works in the planning and building stages of this project, and I would like to applaud them for the excellent job they have done for the building and the tourism industry of the area," added Minister Deighan. "Of great note is the participation of the Western Prince Edward Island Tourism Association. Without their support we would never have been able to see this project to fruition. Both Minister MacKinnon and Mrs. Doreen Sark, President of the local tourism association, were on hand today to celebrate this new facility. I believe everyone will benefit from this, the newest addition to the Information Centre family."
