New Souvenir License Plates Commemorate RCMP’s 75th Anniversary

This past May marked the RCMP’s 75th Anniversary on Prince Edward Island. To help commemorate the event, the Department Of Transportation and Public Works Highway Safety Division has designed a new souvenir plate which will be made available to all current and former RCMP members who served on the Island.

The theme for the anniversary is “75 Years of Red Cliffs and Red Serge,” and that makes the Island’s new “Canada’s Green Province” license plate a perfect fit for the souvenir plate. It features Prince Edward Island’s red cliffs and the numbered sequence RCMP75.

“The RCMP’s work on the Island over the past 75 years has been invaluable,” says Transportation and Public Works Minister Ron MacKinley. “It’s my department’s pleasure to help commemorate the occasion with this small token of appreciation.”

Highway Safety is providing 200 commemorative plates to “L” Division.

Chief Superintendent Randy Robar, Commanding Officer of the RCMP in Prince Edward Island, says he is pleased by the support of the provincial government for the RCMP and that the RCMP anniversary committee is distributing the plates on first- come, first-serve basis at a nominal fee.

“Current and former employees are committed to serving the citizens of this great province,” says Robar. “This initiative will help ensure that we are able to give back to the communities. All money raised will be invested in areas that reflect our provincial policing priorities.”

The RCMP's provincial policing priorities are established each year in consultation with the office of the Attorney General. Current priorities are highway safety, youth, organized crime, and drug trafficking.

Current and former employees may inquire about plate availability by contacting S/Sgt Lew Robinson at 566-7095.
