Following a successful season last year and a national award nomination for best community cable program at the Yorkton Short Film and Video Festival, Focus on Resources, the provincial government's cable television show, will be increasing to one hour this season. Also joining the show this season will be former CBC reporter Whit Carter as the new host.

In addition to the regular features and information on agriculture, fisheries, small business, aquaculture, forestry and the environment, the show has been expanded to include tourism, festivals/events, and the Knowledge Economy Partnership. In the future, the show will be expanded to include a public education component on all departments of the provincial government.

"We are pleased to be embarking on our fourth season of Focus on Resources," said Eric Hammill, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry. "The show helps to highlight the latest innovations and the positive steps the industry is taking."

"This program provides an opportunity to highlight the successes of small business on PEI," said Don MacKinnon, Minister of Development. "We are excited about highlighting the diverse number of products produced on PEI and the quality of services they provide."

The first show will air this Tuesday, October 13, at 7:00 pm, immediately following the local CBC news, on Cable 10, Charlottetown; Cable 7, Summerside; and on Country Cable. This week's show will include the following features: Access PEI; Vegetable Stands; MacPhail Homestead; Old Home Week; PEI Expo; Dutch Elm Disease; and Malpeque Hedgerow.

Focus on Resources was the winner of the 1997 Galaxi Award for Excellence in Programming. Visit our web site at http://www.gov.pe.ca/focus for information on the production crew and upcoming shows.
