Development and Technology Minister Mike Currie has announced a new round of funding for the Between Generations program. Between Generations provides grants to youth organizations that are interested in learning interviewing skills and web page creation.
The youth groups chose topics that bring them together with other generations to discuss historically significant events. The young people conduct interviews and then create a web site based on their research. To date, 28 youth groups from across PEI have completed projects and launched their sites. Most recently, drama and history students at Bluefield High School interviewed veterans and developed a web site and a play based on what they learned.
"The young people of this province have shown great imagination and a real excitement about learning new technology skills through this project," said Minister Currie. "This program allows the young people of PEI to experience the opportunities that internet can provide."
Five youth organizations will receive grants of up to $4,000 each to purchase equipment for their projects. To be eligible, applicants must be a recognized youth group or affiliated with a recognized youth group.
Applications are available online at http://www.techpei.com or by contracting Kendra Gaudet at KenNet Inc., (902) 836-4003. The deadline for applications is Wednesday, February 12 at 3 p.m.
Between Generations is an initiative of Technology PEI, a crown corporation established to advance the growth and development of PEI's technology sector. Technology PEI plays a leadership role in the development, use and adoption of information technology for business and community in the province.
