New Maplewood Manor in Alberton holds open house

Health and Wellness
The new Maplewood Manor offers many advantages for manor residents and community members, says Health and Wellness Minister Doug Currie.

“As part of the Manor Replacement Program, our government is committed to a new level of long-term care delivery, which focuses on person centred care,” said Minister Currie. “Our Healthy Aging Strategy provides a new vision for the future delivery of long-term care that will better meet the needs of seniors in our one Island community.”

In the new 48 room facility, residents will live in one of four households, which will each be home to 12 residents. Each household has a kitchen and living room and every resident has a private room and bathroom. The smaller household design provides a better physical environment as well as an improved staffing model.

“It is wonderful for residents and staff to see the home completed and move-in ready,“ said John Martin, administrator of Maplewood. “We are extremely pleased about this impressively designed home and very excited about moving residents and staff in a few weeks time so they can enjoy all the benefits it will bring.”

Government invested approximately $10.3 million in the Maplewood facility, which will be occupied and fully operational in early November. Maplewood is one of five manors being replaced under government’s $63 million Manor Replacement Program, one of the pillars of the 2009 provincial Healthy Aging Strategy.
