New Health PEI website offers improved user experience

A redesigned website will make it easier to find information about the programs and services Health PEI delivers to Islanders, says Health and Wellness Minister Doug Currie.

“Increasing access to health care also means improving the tools we use to inform the public of the health care services available to them,” Minister Currie said. “I’d like to thank Heath PEI staff for working to re-focus their website on meeting the needs of those who use the system, providing Islanders with the information they need, when they need it.”

The site is reorganized along the left-hand menu with three different types of users in mind: those who want to find our facilities, programs or services; those who are patients, clients, visitors, or newcomers to Prince Edward Island; and those interested in giving or volunteering within the health system.

• Users looking for programs and services in their area can search by using a map, by name or keyword, or by their community’s name. All programs and services can also be searched alphabetically from the home page simply by touching the first letter of the name.

• Users who are patients, client, visitors or newcomers will find information such as preparing for your hospital stay, visiting the emergency department, finding a walk-in clinic, obtaining a health card and requesting health records.

• Those interested in giving and volunteering can find opportunities to volunteer at hospitals in their communities, the foundations and auxiliaries, how Health PEI engages the public, and how to participate in Health PEI Board of Directors meetings.

The fourth major topic area in the left-hand menu is the About Us section, which better consolidates Health PEI’s organizational information into one place: its history, organizational chart, Board of Directors, executive leadership, strategic direction and annual report.

“Since Health PEI’s creation in 2010, we have worked to develop a website that Islanders could rely on to find the services they need,” said Pam Trainor, executive director of Corporate Development and Innovation for Health PEI. “I hope this new website will become a trusted partner in their health care, helping them to find the right care, by the right provider, and in the right place.”

The Health PEI website is located at www.healthpei.ca.
