New Evening Clinic Opens on Wednesdays in O’Leary

* Health [to Jan 2010]
A new evening clinic will begin June 20 at Beechwood Community Health Centre in O’Leary and will run every Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A maximum of 20 people will be seen in each clinic.

This new evening clinic handles less serious or non-life threatening medical situations. This may include conditions such as sore throats, earaches, cold or flu symptoms. Please note that no narcotic refills will be given out during the evening clinics.

Cheryl Doran, Primary Care Nurse and Acting Manager at Beechwood said, “The clinic aims to help improve access to primary care in the O’Leary area and is provided for minor medical conditions where patients are not able to get in to see their family physician. Those experiencing more severe medical conditions should go directly to their local Emergency Department.”

Registration for the evening clinic will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will end at 7 p.m. or when a maximum of 20 patients have been registered. No advance phone calls will be accepted as people must be present to register.

Although these clinics are in addition to regularly scheduled doctor’s appointments at the Beechwood Community Health Centre, the public is encouraged to call the centre to make an appointment with their family physician whenever possible.

Ms. Doran notes that, “Beechwood has a full compliment of physicians at this time. Dr. Laftah and Dr. Morgan are building their practices in the O’Leary area so any patient who currently has a chart at Beechwood, but has no family physician, should call the centre to sign up with either physician.”
