December 20, 2002 * Transportation and Public Works [to Jan 2010]There's a new stocking stuffer available for that last minute holiday shopper as Transportation and Public Works Minister Gail Shea today unveiled an updated and redesigned version of the driver's handbook for Island drivers. This project marks the most modern driver's handbook in nearly a quarter century and includes new sections on timely subjects for Island drivers such as:• Driver distraction• Impaired driving• Seat belt safety• Cellular safety• Safe motorcycle use• Graduated licensing• Road rage "The new driver's handbook is another part of my department's ongoing efforts to improve safety on Island roads. This will be a valuable resource to both new and experienced drivers alike, as we work with Islanders to help make our roads as safe as they can be," said Transportation and Public Works Minister Gail Shea. In an effort to ensure as wide a distribution as possible, the new driver's handbook will be available to the public free of charge. Copies of the handbook will be available at all Access PEI sites throughout the province. An electronic version of the handbook is currently in development and will be available to download in both English and French free of charge from the government website at www.gov.pe.ca.Media Contact: Jeff Himelman
