June 9, 1998 * Agriculture and Forestry [to Oct 2003]Agriculture and Forestry Minister Eric Hammill today announced the appointment of Ira Lewis of York, Prince Edward Island, as a director of the Atlantic Agricultural Hall of Fame. Mr. Lewis succeeds the late Harold Godfrey, and joins Glen Cotton as the second Island representative on the Board. "Ira Lewis brings a lifetime of experience and knowledge of the Prince Edward Island agriculture industry and a deep appreciation of the contributions of those involved in the industry over the years," said Mr. Hammill. "I am confident he will bring sound judgement and keen insight to the activities of the Agricultural Hall of Fame." Lewis began farming in 1939, and is regarded as one of the pioneers of the Island's present potato industry. His 600 acre farm is continued by his sons, although he is still involved in the operation. Mr. Lewis is also an inductee to the Hall of Fame. The Atlantic Agricultural Hall of Fame was established in 1968 to honour individuals in each province for their contribution to the development of the agricultural industry. Each year, once person from each of the four provinces is inducted into the Hall of Fame.Media Contact: Wayne MacKinnon
