New Colville Manor holds open house

The new Colville Manor brings a tremendous sense of pride for manor residents and community members in the Souris area, says Premier Robert Ghiz.

“It is very exciting to see the town of Souris and surrounding areas come together in celebration of this beautiful new facility,” said Premier Ghiz. “My government is committed to providing Islanders with top quality long term care services and I am extremely pleased to know that the new Colville will greatly benefit residents and staff, local seniors and the community overall.”

“Our Island seniors deserve the best care and comfort possible as they age and government is ensuring those with continuing care needs have access to the most modern facilities and programming,” said Health and Wellness Minister Carolyn Bertram. “The new manor is bright, spacious and designed to offer a home-like atmosphere with a focus on person-centred care.”

In the new 52-bed facility, residents will live in one of four households, which will each be home to 13 residents. Each household has a kitchen and living room and every resident has a private room and bathroom. The smaller household design provides a better physical environment as well as an improved staffing model.

“We are thrilled about the new facility and all the advantages it offers,” said Jean Fallis, administrator of Colville. “This is a wonderful day for manor residents and staff and we are looking forward in anticipation of moving in once the final touches are complete in October.”

Government invested approximately $10.4 million in the Colville facility. It is expected to be occupied and fully operational in October. Colville is one of five manors being replaced under government’s $63 million manor replacement project, one of the pillars of the 2009 provincial Healthy Aging Strategy.
