Ann Sherman has been confirmed as the new chairperson of the Premier’s Action Committee on Family Violence Prevention (PAC), says Premier, Robert Ghiz.

“I am very pleased to announce that Ann Sherman will be leading the committee for the next five year mandate,” said the Premier. “The experience and knowledge that Ms. Sherman brings with her will benefit the committee and Islanders as a whole. I am looking forward to seeing what priority areas PAC will set in their new mandate to continue efforts to increase awareness, education and community engagement to help end family violence in Prince Edward Island.”

Ms. Sherman brings a wealth of experience to this role. She was the Executive Director of the PEI Community Legal Information Association (CLIA) for close to 20 years. She was also a Commissioner for the Prince Edward Island Human Rights Commission for five years, including one year as Acting Chief Commissioner. Ms. Sherman has served on a number of national, regional and provincial boards and committees, and is a recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Award as well as other prestigious awards.

“We look forward to welcoming Ann as the new chairperson,” said Valerie E. Docherty, Minister of Community Services and Seniors and Minister Responsible for the Status of Women. “I would also like to take this opportunity to thank outgoing chairperson, Dr. Philip Smith, for the work he has done for Islanders to help raise awareness and change social norms that condone family violence.”

The mission of the Premier’s Action Committee on Family Violence Prevention is to create a society where all individuals are safe, respected and valued; where any form of violence is unacceptable; and where children, women and men have opportunities to reach their full potential and contribute to the overall well-being of families and communities.
