Several new candidates will be running in school board elections on Monday, May 26, 2008.
The following people will be running for election in six Eastern School District zones: Zone 3, Robert Arsenault and Richard Collins; Zone 5, Phil Matusiewicz and David Mitchell; Zone 6, Patti-Sue Lee, Dianne McIsaac, Carol Smith and Edna Reid; Zone 7, Ann Marie Arsenault, Barbara Dingwell and Lloyd Gallant; Zone 9, Gael MacEachern, Fred Quinn and Mike Ramsay; Zone 10, Bob Clow, Gail McCallum, Gordie Noye and Julie Pellissier-Lush.
In the Eastern School District, five trustees have been elected by acclamation. They include Anne Miller, Sandy Clark, Julius Patkai, Ron Lee and Elizabeth Rankin.
In the Western School Board there will be an election in Zone 1 among candidates Jessica Dorgan-Trail, Paul McAlduff and Hal Perry. Eva Rodgerson and Nancy Wallace are running for election in Zone 3.
The seven trustees returning to the Western School Board by acclamation include Janet Yeo, John Arnold, Dean Bryan, Gary Doucette, Gerald Meek, Don MacLean and Austin Johnston.
In the French Language School Board, Maria Kelly and Danielle Mill have been elected by acclamation. A trustee will be appointed in Zone 2. Candidates running for election in Zone 1 are Edgar Arsenault, Felix Arsenault, Francine Arsenault and Jay Gallant. Arthur Buote and Maude Desjardins are running in Zone 4.
Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Gerard Greenan congratulated all candidates for their service to children and learning. “By bringing a strong parent and community voice to school board decision-making, trustees help to ensure that students get the best education possible,” he said. “It is important to get out and vote on May 26 and I encourage all Islanders to do so.”
