Agriculture and Forestry Minister Eric Hammill officially launched the department's new agriculture web site today during the Information Technology Trade Fair at the Prince Edward Hotel.
The Agriculture Information Centre provides users with immediate access to information in the form of fact sheets, publications, newsletters and reports. It also allows clients direct access to such services as those provided by the Soil and Feed Lab and the Aphid Alert program, as well as, links to other agricultural sites. Other helpful forms of information such as farm weather forecasts and a metric converter are available at the web site.
"The new Agriculture Information Centre demonstrates the department's commitment to provide the industry with timely and relevant information and services," said Mr. Hammill. "It is part of our goal to improve the quality and delivery of advice and assistance to our clients."
The new agriculture web site is part of the provincial government's efforts to improve the delivery of services and information though the internet. The province's web site provides updated information on all government departments and services, and has been internationally recognized for the quality of its design and effectiveness.
Funding for the new agriculture web site was provided under the Canada-Prince Edward Island Farm Business Management Agreement. Industry representatives also provided input to the development of the site.
