Networking Opportunities in Wood Industry

* Agriculture and Forestry [to Oct 2003]
A seminar to be held on March 13 in Charlottetown will discuss opportunities for forest and wood industry representatives to work together to improve economic opportunities. The seminar, "Connecting the Finished Product to the Forest," will bring together woodlot owners, contractors, sawmillers, wood product manufacturers and forest industry personnel to develop stronger networks within the industry. It is being sponsored by the Forestry Division of the Department of Agriculture and Forestry.

"The focus of this seminar is to consider ways of deriving more economic benefits from our forest resources," said Sid Watts, speciality products coordinator with the Forestry Division. "Better understanding among the businesses involved in the various stages in the production of wood products will lead to increased opportunities for all sectors of the forest industry."

The keynote speaker is Dr. Bob Rice, Associate Professor of Wood Science and Technology at the University of Maine. He has developed a program specializing in various aspects of business to business marketing in the forest products industry. Dr. Rice will discuss networking as a means of increasing marketability of forest and wood products, along with offering some practical examples from other areas.

The seminar will be held at the Atlantic Tourism and Hospitality Institute on Sydney Street with registration beginning at 8:00 a.m. The registration fee of $20 includes lunch. For more information, call Sid Watts at 368-4700.
