The Province of Prince Edward Island has invested $15,000 for a new floating dock in the Community of Morell under the new Island Community Fund. Installation of this new structure is the latest phase of upgrading recreational infrastructure in Morell.
“The improvements to this boating facility will help ensure that residents and visitors can enjoy safe and easy access to the Morell River,” said the Honourable Carolyn Bertram, Minister of Communities, Cultural Affairs and Labour. “The Community of Morell is to be commended for their dedicated efforts to ensure that the community has access to quality recreational facilities. The Provincial Government is proud to be able to provide financial support for this wonderful project."
The project included the installation of a new floating dock at Leo Rossiter Angler’s Park on the Morell River. Major upgrades to the park have recently been completed and the municipality believes that the addition of a floating dock will make the river more accessible to swimmers, canoeists and kayakers, as well as the general public.
“We are getting a tremendous response to the new docks; more people are using the river for swimming, kayaking and canoeing,” said Morell Chairperson Bill Rooney. “We are so pleased with the province’s support of this project and thank all of our residents and volunteers for their hard work in making this project a reality.”
The Government of Prince Edward Island has committed a total of $27.5 million in Island Community Fund funding for six years.
