More equipment heading to West Prince this week to deal with snowfall

The provincial government is sending additional snow removal equipment to West Prince, says Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal Ron MacKinley.

“Arterial highways and collector roads are in pretty good shape right now but once you get down to local roads, it’s a different story in West Prince. They have many roads that are down to one lane for some distance, and there are high banks on both sides,” said Minister MacKinley. “The Department will deploy at least four additional pieces of equipment to help West Prince crews get caught up and clear snow from local roads.”

West Prince has been harder hit than other parts of the Island this winter. Transportation officials say they have not seen this much snow in Prince County since 1982. The Department is now far better equipped to deal with higher accumulations of snow but, at the same time, clearing all roads to a two-lane width under the current circumstances can be very difficult.

“I’m very proud of all the hard work done by our crews and contractors. They’ve done unbelievable work so far this winter and they deserve to be commended,” said Minister MacKinley. “But all their hard work can’t stop the snow from falling and it hasn’t stopped falling for weeks. That’s why we’re making adjustments.”
