Participants of this year’s Provincial Heritage Fair are to be congratulated for their unique and informative projects celebrating the rich history of Prince Edward Island and Canada, says Tourism and Culture Minister Robert Vessey.

“More than 200 students participated in this year’s fair and each project reflected the diversity of our heritage,” said the Minister. “By learning about the history of our communities and cultures through the Provincial Heritage Fair, students also gain a greater understanding of more current world affairs.”

This year’s fair was held Friday, May 20 at the Confederation Centre of the Arts. Awards were handed out for the top projects in each grade level. In addition, several prizes sponsored by national and location organizations were awarded.

“History is an important component of the curriculum in our Island school system,” said Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Doug Currie. “I want to congratulate all participants of the Provincial Heritage Fair. It is great to see so many students taking an interest in our history and culture. The projects on display take a lot of time and effort and would not be possible without the support of parents and educators.”
