We are pleased to welcome Dr. Thomas Dorran to the position of Medical Director, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, say Health and Wellness Minister Doug Currie and Acting Health PEI CEO and PEI Executive Director of Medical Affairs Dr. Nadeem Dada.
“Dr. Dorran is a knowledgeable and well-respected physician, and I am confident that he will be an asset to our health care system,” said Minister Currie. “We are fortunate to gain the services and leadership experience of Dr. Dorran, and I am happy to welcome him to Prince Edward Island and to his new role.”
Dr. Dorran will replace Dr. Rosemary Henderson who has been serving as QEH Medical Director since November, 2009. Dr. Henderson will continue to provide service in laboratory medicine in the specialty of pathology.
“Dr. Henderson has been an integral part of our health care system since she moved here in 1991,” said Minister Currie. “I want to thank her for her past and continued service and dedication to the QEH and to the entire health care system.
“As the province’s largest acute care facility and main referral hospital, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital plays an important role in services to all Islanders daily."
In August, 2014, Dr. Dorran visited the Island and met with many physician groups at the QEH and other senior management health leaders.
“Dr. Dorran has finalized his duties as Executive Medical Director of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, and will start in his new role at the QEH in January,” said Dr. Dada. “He will be a valuable addition to the senior management team of Health PEI, and we look forward to working with him in the new year.”
Thomas Dorran, B.Sc., M.D., CCFP received a Doctor of Medicine at McMaster University, in Ontario in 1994 followed by a Master of Business Administration in Executive Management from Royal Roads University in Victoria, BC in 2005.
He has served as an emergency room physician at Sudbury General Hospital in Ontario, as Chief of the Department of Emergency Medicine of the Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, BC, and as Executive Director of Patient Safety with the Ministry of Health Services in Victoria, BC.
