French libraries in Prince Edward Island will host literary illustration workshops by French illustrator Daniel Sylvestre, says Minister of Tourism and Culture Robert Vessey.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for French library patrons and students to enjoy the work of this well-known French illustrator,” said Minister Vessey. “Libraries play an important role in exposing Island communities to literary works, through books, technology and live readings.”
Daniel Sylvestre was a finalist for the 1992 Governor General’s Award for illustration in children’s literature. He will be visiting French library branches on the Island, as well as some French and immersion schools to meet with students in grades 1-3. Workshops will take place from November 1-3.
“It is important to bring Island children to events like these because it is a chance for them to learn more about literary works and Canadian artists. All Islanders should take advantage of the opportunities for learning available at their local library branches.”
Daniel Sylvestre’s workshop tour is sponsored by the Canada Council for the Arts and is organized by Communication-Jeunesse, in partnership with the Public Library Service of the Department of Tourism and Culture.
