Minister Vessey Launches TD Summer Reading Club Program

* Tourism and Culture [to May 2015]
Island children are invited to travel to exotic lands, explore tropical environments and discover faraway places through the 2010 PEI Public Library TD Summer Reading Club Destination Jungle, says Minister of Tourism and Culture Robert Vessey.

“This is a great opportunity for children to enjoy reading and maintain their reading skills over the summer months,” said Minister Vessey. “Parents are encouraged to register their children with the TD Summer Reading Club simply by visiting their local public library.”

Participants receive an activity booklet, a reading logsheet and a poster. By earning stickers as they read and by meeting other readers through the jungle theme program, they find out that reading can be fun.

The PEI Public Library Service TD Summer Reading Club will be launched at the Alberton Public Library on Monday, June 14 at 1 p.m. The public is welcome to join local school children and special guests for readings, a puppet show, activities and cake as they embark on a summer of reading and exploration.

To register a child in the reading club, visit or call your local public library. For more information on the program, contact Barb Kissick, Youth Services Librarian at bjkissick@gov.pe.ca.
