Today is the first day on the job for newly elected council members in Charlottetown, Summerside, Cornwall and Stratford but everyone involved in yesterday’s elections deserves to be congratulated, says Finance and Municipal Affairs Minister, Wes Sheridan.
“It was an impressive list of candidates, which meant there were some hard decisions to make on Election Day,” says Minister Sheridan. “I am so pleased for those who won their seats, but all of the men and women who put their names out there for consideration are to be commended for getting involved in this important process.”
Minister Sheridan says he is looking forward to maintaining a cooperative working relationship with the four new councils. “Our municipalities are vital to the continued success of our province,” he says. “I am eager to hear about the plans our newest council members have to further strengthen their communities.”
Minister Sheridan also expressed his gratitude to Elections PEI for its success in overseeing yesterday’s elections.
Charlottetown, Summerside, Stratford and Cornwall each have their own Election By-laws but Elections PEI conducts their municipal elections.
