The excitement is building as Team PEI arrives in Halifax for tonight’s opening ceremonies for the 2011 Canada Winter Games, says Health and Wellness Minister Carolyn Bertram.

“Our athletes, coaches, and mission staff have been working diligently to prepare for the Games, and finally the countdown is over,” said Minister Bertram. “At tonight’s opening ceremonies, and throughout the next two weeks, that work, along with the skill, determination, experience and the provincial pride of Team PEI will be on display for the entire country. Best wishes and good luck to all of our athletes and artists, let the Games begin!”

The 2011 Canada Winter Games run from February 11 to 27, 2010 in Halifax.

Over 215 athletes, coaches and mission staff will be representing Prince Edward Island at the Games – 19 teams competing in 16 sports. There will also be three Island artists as part of Team PEI in the National Artists Program.

“We are so proud of our 2011 Canada Games Team PEI and no matter what the result, they are great ambassadors for our province,” said Minister Bertram.
