Poverty reduction, supports connecting individuals to the work force and early learning and child care are priorities for Prince Edward Island at the upcoming federal, provincial and territorial meetings for ministers responsible for social services, says Tina Mundy Minister of Family and Human Services.

“I am looking forward to meeting with my counterparts across the country to discuss these important topics,” said Minister Mundy. “This is the first time in 10 years that the provincial and territorial ministers will meet with the federal minister and I am very eager to learn more about the federal government’s plan to support Islanders who need it the most.”

The meetings will be held in Edmonton, Alberta and will take place on February 4 and 5. Minister Mundy will be leading the discussion on early learning and child care for the provinces and territories.

“I am anxious to work with my federal, provincial and territorial colleagues on how we can collectively work on the important issue of access to early learning and child care. This is a priority for our government and I hope to hear some possible ways to build on Prince Edward Island’s industry leading Pre-school Excellence Program,” said the Minister.

Minister Mundy notes that her mandate letter from Premier MacLauchlan has many similarities to the federal minister’s mandate letter. She believes that this is a great opportunity to build positive relationships across the country and establish priorities for a plan to help Islanders and Canadians, who need the most support, become more independent.
