Minister Pleased with Honeywell's Centre of Excellence in PEI

Michael F. Currie, Minister of Development and Technology says he's pleased to learn that Honeywell has selected PEI as a site for its Centre of Excellence. Honeywell announced yesterday its Prince Edward Island facility has been selected as a Centre of Excellence for repair and overhaul of large engine fuel controls. Honeywell's Centres of Excellence are designed to optimize efficiency and expertise around specific common parts and components.

"Working with Honeywell over the last several years has been extremely beneficial for the province of Prince Edward Island," said Minister Currie. "Not only does Honeywell continue to surpass our growth expectations, but this company very nicely illustrates how an aerospace company can flourish in Prince Edward Island."

Ten years ago, aerospace was nonexistent on PEI. The sector now represents 20 percent of total provincial exports and has sales of $150 million a year.

The industry currently employs approximately 550 people.

Additional positions will be created at Honeywell due to this expansion.

"Those individuals who may not have considered a career in the aerospace industry may want to further explore what excellent career opportunities this industry has to offer," Minister Currie said.

The company is currently working with Holland College to prepare for the addition of new employees. Anyone interested in taking the fuel control technician program should contact Holland College's Aerospace Training Program at 1-800-446-5265.

The company also intends to expand it's Summerside facility.

Honeywell is a diversified technology and manufacturing leader, serving customers worldwide with aerospace products and services, control technologies for buildings homes and industry, automotive products, turbocharges, specialty chemicals, fibres, plastics, and electronic and advanced materials.
