September 26, 1996 * Economic Development [to Jul 1998]Prime Minister Jean Chrétien's announcement of the appointment of J. David Nicholson as the Acting President of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) yesterday came as good news to many people across Prince Edward Island. Along with his new duties as President of ACOA, Mr. Nicholson will continue to serve in his present position as Deputy Minister of Veterans Affairs. "ACOA has played a vital role in strengthening the economy in PEI," said Robert Morrissey, PEI Minister of Economic Development and Tourism. "We have always enjoyed an excellent working relationship with ACOA and this latest announcement only increases my confidence in the future of the organization. Mr. Nicholson, along with Secretary of State Lawrence MacAulay, are sure to bring a renewed sensitivity and understanding to this important organization." The appointment is effective immediately.
