Minister of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Environment Kevin J. MacAdam has announced the appointment of Dr. Donna Giberson as chair of the Prince Edward Island Environmental Advisory Council.
Giberson is a member of the faculty in the Department of Biology at the University of Prince Edward Island. A fresh water ecologist, she has considerable experience in the study of the environmental effects of man-made enterprises on streams and lakes.
"I am pleased Dr. Giberson has agreed to chair the Environmental Advisory Council and I look forward to working with her," the Minister said in announcing the appointment. "Her knowledge of environmental issues will serve the council and the province well."
The Environmental Advisory Council is appointed under the Environmental Protection Act to advise the Minister of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Environment on issues of environmental concern.
Minister MacAdam has announced several other appointments to the Environmental Advisory Council, effective immediately:
- Brackley farmer Barry Cudmore was named vice-chair;
- Dr. Leon Loucks, former chair of the council, and Kevin MacAdam of Morell were re-appointed to three-year terms as council members;
- Ricki Lee Sulis of 48 Road joins the council for a three-year term, replacing Calvin Fraser whose term had expired; and
- Peggy Coffin of Brudenell replaces Wellington resident Carol Gallant as the Federation of PEI Municipalities representative on the advisory council.
"Both the newly-appointed members and returning members of the council bring a wide variety of experience to the table but the one thing they have in common is a dedication to the environment," said Minister MacAdam. "I am certain they will all contribute a great deal to the work of the council."
While announcing the new appointments, the minister also took the opportunity to thank Mr. Fraser and Ms. Gallant for their service.
Other members of the Environmental Advisory Council are Lorne MacNeill of West Cape, Emmerson McMillan of Ascension, Terry Perry of Millvale, Dr. Pierre-Yves Daoust of Wheatley River, Bruce Gillespie of Indian River, and Rudy Croken of Kensington.
