Prince Edward Island Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development Minister Neil LeClair is leading a delegation of local seafood business and trade officials to the International Boston Seafood Show from March 15 to 17. The show is North America’s largest seafood exhibition, attracting close to 18,000 buyers and sellers from around the world.

“This major seafood exhibition provides an outstanding opportunity to bring to the attention of buyers the high quality and value of Prince Edward Island seafood products,” said Mr. LeClair. “Despite the current challenges in the marketplace, we are optimistic that new and expanded markets for our products can be identified and pursued.”

During the seafood show, Mr. LeClair will participate in the official opening of the Atlantic Canada pavilion which features seafood products and services from the region. The Prince Edward Island section of the pavilion will include displays from Ocean Choice, PEI Mussel King and the Food Technology Centre. A meeting room is being set up by PEI Business Development.

Other Prince Edward Island businesses with booths at the show are Charlottetown Metal Products, Prince Edward Aqua Farms, Atlantic Aqua Farms and Confederation Cove Mussels. A number of other Prince Edward Island seafood businesses will also have representatives at the show. They are Mariner Seafoods, Howards Cove Shellfish, Belle River Enterprises, Royal Star Foods, Green Gables Mussels, By the Water Shellfish, Acadian Fishermen’s Co-op/Atlantic Queen Seafoods, and Future Seafoods.

“The Boston Seafood Show is all about promoting our products and making contacts and sales,” said Mr. LeClair. “It is an excellent venue to bring buyers and sellers together and raise the profile of Prince Edward Island businesses to markets around the world.”
