The Minister of Transportation and Public Works, the Honourable Michael Currie, issued a statement today regarding highway safety.
Mr. Currie stated, "in the past several days there have been three highway traffic accidents in which young people have lost their lives. As provincial Minister responsible for highway safety, I want to extend my sincere sympathy to the families of the victims."
Since June is Graduation month for a large segment of the youth population of Prince Edward Island, the Minister is requesting that all Island motorists be safety conscious when on the highways. "It is extremely important that all safety measures be taken to ensure safer travelling to and from functions," said Mr. Currie.
The Minister also cautioned that with the beginning of the Province's busy tourism season and the increase in traffic on Island highways, it is each driver's responsibility to drive defensively and promote safety.
