Minister of Health Extends Condolences to Friends and Family of Dr. Morrissey

* Health [to Jan 2010]
Today, Chester Gillan, Minister of Health and Social Services and Seniors, expressed his deepest condolences to family and friends of Dr. Coleman Morrissey of Alberton. Dr. Morrissey passed away suddenly on Sunday as a result of an All Terrain Vehicle accident.

Minister Gillan said, “Dr. Morrissey was a well respected and deeply dedicated physician in the West Prince area. He will surely be missed by family, friends, and professional colleagues at Western Hospital, as well as the many he served over the years in his medical practice.”

Dr. Morrissey reached retirement age last year and was no longer part of the on-call rotation at Western Hospital in Alberton. However, he continued to see patients in his private practice until June of this year when he took some time for personal leave. Minister Gillan added, “This is a big loss for the community. We recognize he had a large practice with Islanders from North Cape to Alberton. We first need to recognize the significant contribution of Dr. Morrissey. It will then be important to continue recruiting new physicians into the area to ensure appropriate physician coverage for the people of West Prince.”

“Over the years, Dr. Morrissey contributed in his roles as Chief of Staff, medical representative in the accreditation process and in hospital planning, noted Minister Gillan. “His contribution to medical services and the Western Hospital will long be remembered by those with whom he worked and served.”
