Islanders will be cheering on the participants of the 2015 Vogue Optical 55+ Winter Games this week, says Health and Wellness Minister Doug Currie.

“Participants in the 55+ Winter Games are role models for living a healthy, active lifestyle at any age,” said the minister. “They are committed to staying physically and mentally active and are achieving their goals with each small step they take.”

Over 500 participants will take part in the 2015 Vogue Optical 55+ Winter Games. The games run from February 23 to 28 and are hosted by the City of Charlottetown.

Events include hockey, curling, stick curling, badminton, pickle ball, bowling, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, walking, skating, auction 45s, cribbage, contract bridge, duplicate bridge, 8-ball pool, darts, spin cycling, table tennis, crokinole, and scrabble.

Prince Edward Island’s new wellness strategy supports individuals and communities to get active and start on a path to better health.

“The 55+ Games is a wonderful example of an initiative encouraging Islanders to get moving and involved,” said the minister. “I wish all participants good luck and a great time at the games.”

The Government of Prince Edward Island provides $12,000 annually to the 55+Games organization to assist with organization operations and games programming.
