Attorney General Hon. Doug Currie, took a few moments in the provincial legislature today to encourage Islanders to prepare their homes and families for potential emergencies.
“Next week is Emergency Preparedness (EP) Week across Canada, and the theme is personal and family readiness,” the Minister said. “I hope Islanders will follow the three simple steps of emergency preparedness: learn the risks in your area, make an emergency plan for your family, and put together a basic emergency kit.”
Minister Currie, who is the Minister Responsible for Public Safety, said EP Week activities are planned to help Islanders learn more and become better prepared. The Office of Public Safety will be giving away “starter” emergency kits throughout the week. For a chance to win one of the daily prizes, Islanders are invited to take the online quiz or sign up for email emergency alerts, safety tips and notices at www.peipublicsafety.ca.
“Emergency preparedness is everyone’s responsibility,” he said. “We cannot always predict emergencies, but we can – and should – prepare for them. Being prepared can make a world of difference.”
