Minister Of Education Recognizes Contribution Of Teachers And Support Staff

Prince Edward Island's Education Minister saluted Island teachers and support staff in recognition of National Teacher Staff Appreciation Week which runs February 13-19.

"Prince Edward Island is a place where learning is highly valued," said Education Minister Chester Gillan. "The teachers and support staff in our Island schools are providing quality education in a first-class learning environment. The Department of Education strives to deliver equitable opportunities for life-long learning. Our teachers and support staff ensure this goal is attained."

National Teacher Staff/Appreciation Week is an initiative of the Canadian Home and School Federation. It is an opportunity for students, parents and the community at large to show their appreciation for Island teachers and support staff.

"Islanders realize the importance of a high quality, publicly-funded education system," said Gillan. "Our teachers and support staff are a key component to our success in this area."

Gillan also said teachers are active participants in Island communities, volunteering their time to contribute to the betterment of Island society.
