Education Minister Jeffrey E. Lantz met with a number of students from Keyin College on Friday morning to discuss concerns they have about their education at the private training institution. The Minister and the students also reviewed a monitoring plan that has been prepared by the department, in consultation with college officials.
"Over the last several weeks, officials from the Department of Education have met with Keyin College officials and students to determine a course of action that should ensure delivery of quality training for the remainder of the program," said Minister Lantz.
The monitoring plan for the upcoming semester includes: a comprehensive monitoring plan, assurances that computers and text books will be available for students, course evaluations and a commitment from the Department of Education to facilitate on-the-job-training placements for students.
"By working together with the students and the college, we hope we can address the issues raised by students," said Minister Lantz. "I appreciate the efforts of the students and Chris Tucker, Keyin College principal, in working together. I am confident that the monitoring plan presented and discussed today will provide for a smooth transition into the fourth semester."
