Minister Currie Welcomes Two New Tenants to the Atlantic Technology Centre

Development and Technology Minister Mike Currie has welcomed two new tenants to the Atlantic Technology Centre, CHTN, owned by NewCap Inc., will occupy the last remaining space on the upper floors of the ATC. In addition, the station will broadcast from the first floor, at the corner of University and Fitzroy. People will be able to watch the station on the air, adding meaning to the phrase “see it on the radio”.

Well known Island broadcaster Frank Lewis is a consultant for the new station. He says CHTN’s location at the ATC is a great fit. “The Atlantic Technology Centre will give us a high profile, which is great for a new station,” he said. “The infrastructure and the backup systems that exist at the Centre will also be a tremendous asset.”

CHTN will employ 14 people, including 7 new positions. The station will be on the air from the ATC on June 1, 2005.

AML Communications, an authorized dealer for Rogers Wireless has opened a retail outlet and business service centre for Rogers Wireless products on the ATC’s first floor. The business will employ 5 people.

The two new tenants mean the ATC is now 98 percent occupied.

“We knew from the outset that the ATC would be a success,” said Minister Currie. “We now have 22 companies with almost 300 employees working out of the centre, which is a great boost for the information and communications technology sector and for downtown Charlottetown.”

The annual payroll for 2004 was approximately $14 million. Combined annual sales of the tenant companies was approximately $21 million.
