Minister Congratulates ECMA Success

* Community and Cultural Affairs [to Jun 2007]
Community and Cultural Affairs Minister Gail Shea would like to congratulate all those associated with the success of the East Coast Music Awards over the last weekend. The event, which drew on the dedication of hundreds of volunteers as well as the talents of the event organizers and the musicians, wrapped up on Monday. While the full impact of the event has not yet been determined, organizers are satisfied that it was one of the most successful events ever held.

"I would like to thank everyone for the efforts which went into the activity. Once again, we have shown the entire country that when Islanders get behind something they can make it a success." Mrs. Shea noted that for every musical act which appeared in showcases, concerts and in the televised gala there was a network of volunteers that made sure that things happened when and where they were supposed to.

Volunteers began working more than a year ago planning the event, and in the last few days hundreds were involved. "From the ECMA board to the shuttle drivers and volunteer ECMA radio hosts, all of these people worked very hard. They can take pride and satisfaction in knowing how important this has been for the province. Not only are there economic benefits for us, but the ECMA is a tremendous shot in the arm for the musicians of the province."

Minister Shea noted that this was a success for more than just the award winners. "I offer my congratulations to those Islanders who received awards but as well to those who were nominated, those who had showcases and those who simply had the opportunity to perform for the public. Our music industry is something which we all can be proud of; this weekend gave us a chance to show it to the world."
