A national award presented to Bertha Campbell reflects the increasing leadership role of women in the agriculture industry, says Agriculture Minister George Webster.
Earlier this week, Bertha Campbell of Grahams Road was one of five Canadian women who were recognized for their leadership and commitment to the agriculture industry with a Farm Credit Canada Rosemary Davis Award.
“I am pleased to congratulate Bertha Campbell on the receipt of this prestigious national award,” said Mr. Webster. “She has been a passionate and committed spokesperson for the agriculture industry, and has helped increase awareness of its importance and the contribution it makes to our province.”
Campbell was elected earlier this year as president of the Prince Edward Island Federation of Agriculture, one of only two women to hold the position. She and her husband Vernon were previously honoured with an award for their contributions to agriculture awareness in the province. In 1993, they were the winners of Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmer award.
The criteria for the award includes demonstrated leadership, community involvement and contributions to the agriculture industry. Campbell will receive an all-expense paid trip to Boston to attend the 2011 Simmons School of Management leadership conference for women. The Rosemary Davis Award was established in 2005. She was the first female board chair of Farm Credit Canada.
