This past week, Prince Edward Island played host to a successful 2004 Senior Women’s Canadian Fastpitch Championship.
The Honourable Elmer MacFadyen, Minister of Community and Cultural Affairs and Minister Responsible for Recreation and Sport, commended the organizing committee, athletes and spectators on the success of this national event.
“I would like to congratulate the organizing committee lead by Carol Mayne, the host City of Charlottetown and the many volunteers for the excellent tournament and the tremendous work they put into the week,” said Minister MacFadyen. “Events such as this would not be possible without the support of local sponsors, volunteers and spectators, and I would like to extend my appreciation to all individuals and companies who assisted in making this event a tremendous success.
Minister MacFadyen also commended the Charlottetown Bottle and Metal Panthers representing Prince Edward Island and the host team the Subway Sluggers as great competitors and wonderful hosts to the rest of Canada.
“I am sure that athletes, coaches and spectators will remember the superb Island hospitality and, on behalf of the Government of Prince Edward Island, it is my pleasure to congratulate the Brampton Blazers as the overall tournament winner,” said Minister MacFadyen. “This championship attracted visitors from across Canada providing significant economic activity for the province, not to mention the opportunity for Islanders to enjoy the high calibre ball that these teams are known for.”
The 2004 Senior Women’s Canadian Fastpitch Championship saw 10 teams from across Canada compete with the Brampton Blazers coming out on top. Prince Edward Island was represented by two teams – Charlottetown Bottle and Metal Panthers, who finished ninth, and the Subway Sluggers finishing in fifth place.
