This past week, Prince Edward Island played host to a successful 2002 Senior Women's Fastpitch Tournament.
The Honourable Elmer MacFadyen, Minister of Community and Cultural Affairs and Minister Responsible for Recreation and Sport, commended the organizing committee, athletes and spectators on the success of this national event.
"I would like to congratulate the organizing committee led by Carol Mayne and the many volunteers for the excellent tournament and the tremendous work they put into the week," said Minister MacFadyen.
Minister MacFadyen also commended the PEI Panthers representing Prince Edward Island and host team the Subway Sluggers as great competitors and wonderful hosts to the rest of Canada.
"I am sure that athletes, coaches and spectators will remember the superb Island hospitality and, on behalf of the Government of Prince Edward Island, it is my pleasure to congratulate the Manitoba Smitty's as the overall tournament winner," said Minister MacFadyen.
Minister MacFadyen commended all teams on the high calibre of sportsmanship and competition.
"Sport and recreational events play a vital role in the economic development of our province, and it is wonderful to see the tremendous support of Islanders as organizers, volunteers, athletes, coaches and spectators," says Minister MacFadyen.
