An updated version of the Career Profile Handbook is helping people learn more about the rewarding career opportunities available in Prince Edward Island, says Hon. Allan Campbell, Minister of Innovation and Advanced Learning.

“The latest edition of the Career Profile Handbook contains an abundance of information that can help people match their skills with exciting employment options in our province,” said Minister Campbell. “The Government of Prince Edward Island continues to work with industry in an effort to strengthen our workforce, and this booklet is a great tool for anyone seeking information on careers.”

The Department of Innovation and Advanced Learning, through the Population Secretariat, published the expanded version of the Career Profile Handbook. The document offers detailed descriptions of job opportunities available in emerging and traditional sectors of the Prince Edward Island economy. The 2009 edition also includes new information on jobs that are currently available in the Island’s healthcare sector.

The Career Profile Handbook outlines more than 130 careers in industries such as health, aerospace, agriculture, bioscience, construction, financial services, manufacturing, skilled trades, information technology, professional engineering, seafood processing, tourism and truck transportation. The booklet also summarizes the responsibilities, salaries, employment outlook and training options for a wide variety of careers.

“Selecting a career path is a very important decision and this easy-to-read booklet presents a lot of important information that will help job seekers evaluate their options,” said Minister Campbell. “Teachers and guidance counselors across the province will also have access to the Career Profile Handbook, which will help students learn more about jobs that are available right here in Prince Edward Island.”
