Minister Brown Welcomes New Financial Services Company to Prince Edward Island

Prince Edward Island’s financial services sector continues to grow with the addition of Data Shapers, a leading information technology provider headquartered in Calgary, Alberta.

Data Shapers is focused on software development, technical writing and data integration for the financial services industry. The company will open its Charlottetown office in March, 2008. This expansion is expected to create eleven new positions within the first year of operations and more than thirty positions within three years.

The Honourable Richard Brown, Minister of Development and Technology, said financial services and information technology are key growth sectors for Prince Edward Island.

“By attracting new businesses to Prince Edward Island, we are able to diversify the economy and create jobs for Islanders,” said Minister Brown. “We are very pleased to welcome Data Shapers to Prince Edward Island.”

Executive Vice President and Co-founder Rick Mills said he was impressed by the efforts of educational institutions such as Holland College and the University of Prince Edward Island for developing highly skilled workers. This, coupled with a receptive business environment, made Prince Edward Island the logical choice for the new expansion.

“Data Shapers' objective was to open a new office somewhere in the maritime region,” said Mr. Mills. “The efforts of PEI Business Development Inc. helped the company see the benefit of opening an office in Prince Edward Island. We now appreciate what Prince Edward Island has to offer and look forward to becoming part of the business community.”
