Minister Brown Urges Islanders to Participate in 2008 Studio Tour

* Innovation and Advanced Learning [to May 2015]
Island artists and artisans will open their studios this week allowing visitors to see them at work during the 10th annual PEI Studio Tour.

Richard Brown, Minister of Innovation and Advanced Learning, said the six-day event, September 30 to October 3, is a great opportunity to showcase the talents of Island craftspeople.

“Prince Edward Island is fortunate to have such creative artists,” said Minister Brown. “Island artists have well-established reputations as producers of fine crafts. The Studio Tour attracts thousands of visitors annually and our government is committed to supporting this vibrant industry. This sector highlights the rich culture of Prince Edward Island and also creates meaningful and rewarding employment in communities across the province.”

During the Studio Tour Weekend, shoppers will be able to save the provincial sales tax (pst) on Island-made crafts and giftware at participating studios across PEI.

This year, 65 studios are participating and promoting a wide variety of items ranging from woodcrafts, jewellery, iron works and glass work to basket weaving. Studio visitors will have a chance to observe hands-on demonstrations and participate in scheduled workshops.

Copies of the 2008 Studio Tour Guide and Map are available at any PEI Visitor Information Centre. Each site will also be marked with colourful signs and balloons. The Studio Tour is sponsored by the Department of Innovation and Advanced Learning, through PEI Business Development Inc.
