Prince Edward Islanders now have access to the second edition of the Career Profile Handbook, a comprehensive handbook that will help students, teachers, parents and newcomers learn more about rewarding careers available in the province.
The Department of Innovation and Advanced Learning, through the Population Secretariat, has released the expanded version of the handbook which offers detailed descriptions of job opportunities available in emerging and traditional sectors of the Prince Edward Island economy.
The Career Profile Handbook outlines more than 130 careers in industries such as aerospace, agriculture, bioscience, construction, financial services, information technology, manufacturing, skilled trades, professional engineering, seafood processing, tourism and truck transportation. The handbook also summarizes the responsibilities, salaries, employment outlook and training options for a wide variety of careers.
Richard Brown, Minister of Innovation and Advanced Learning, says the Career Profile Handbook provides important information on careers that are available in Prince Edward Island.
“The Career Profile Handbook is useful for anyone seeking information on career opportunities in our province,” said Minister Brown. “The detailed handbook is easy to read and allows students to match personal skills, abilities and interests with a wide variety of careers. It includes essential information that will help job seekers evaluate options when choosing a career in Prince Edward Island.”
Teachers and guidance counsellors like John Dunsford at Bluefield High School in Hampshire, PEI, agree that the Career Profile Handbook is helpful for students seeking career advice.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better text to complement our Co-op Work Program,” said Mr. Dunsford. “As part of the program at Bluefield, students are asked to research three careers suited to their skills and interests and present a career of choice to the class. The Career Profile Handbook is the perfect reference for this project. The book is easy to read and includes relevant information about job opportunities available right here in PEI.”
The new Career Profile Handbook is available in print and online at PEIjoblink.ca. The online edition provides an opportunity to view individual job descriptions through dynamic menus as well as links to industry related websites. Print copies are available at Access PEI locations and at the Population Secretariat office by calling 902-620-3656.
