Fisheries, Aquaculture and Rural Development Minister Neil LeClair today announced funding for renovations to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 16 in Tignish. Funding under the Canada - Prince Edward Island Labour Market Development Agreement and the Community Development Bureau, in partnership with the Tignish Legion, will support the $140,000 in renovations being carried out to the exterior and interior of the Legion branch.

“This week’s Remembrance Day services reminded us of the contributions and sacrifices made by the men and women who served their nation in time of war,” said Minister LeClair. “Through the work of the Legion branches, our veterans continue to serve their communities in many ways. The funding we are providing acknowledges the ongoing role of the Tignish Legion to our community.”

The Minister also commended the members of the Tignish Legion who have initiated a fundraising campaign to establish a Veterans Memorial Garden on the grounds of the Legion. The garden will recognize veterans of the various branches of the military and those who continue to serve and will include a memorial poppy garden and commemorative maple trees.

“The support which we are providing for the renovations at the Tignish Legion reflects our commitment to work with communities to enhance local infrastructure and improve community facilities,” said Minister LeClair. “The Legion is a focal point for its members and for the people in the area, and I am pleased the provincial government has partnered in this project.”
