Brookvale Provincial Park will be home to the 2011 Provincial and Atlantic Biathlon Competitions, thanks in part to support from the provincial government, says Health and Wellness Minister Carolyn Bertram.

“We are so pleased to support this exciting competition,” said Minister Bertram. “Biathlon is a sport of both endurance and precision and we are proud to host the best competitors Atlantic Canada has to offer.”

The 3rd Atlantic Cup and the first ever PEI Biathlon Championships will be held at Brookvale from February 25 to 27, 2011.

“This is the third consecutive year that Biathlon PEI has hosted an Atlantic Cup and the first Provincial championship,” said Bob Bentley, President of Biathlon PEI. “These competitions have contributed greatly to the high level of competitiveness of Prince Edward Island biathletes at the Canada Games this year and the PEI championship demonstrates the growth of biathlon in PEI.”

“Best of luck to all our Island participants,” said Minister Bertram. “I encourage all Islanders to take in the competitions and support these talented athletes.”

Admission to the Provincial and Atlantic Biathlon Competitions is free of charge for spectators and all are welcome.

Biathlon is a winter sport which combines competitive cross-country skiing and small-bore rifle marksmanship. Biathlon PEI offers a full range of programs from introductory levels to the elite athlete level.
