* Communities, Cultural Affairs and Labour [to Jan 2010]
The Honourable Carolyn Bertram, Minister of Communities, Cultural Affairs and Labour, recently joined local MLA Pat Murphy and Member of the Alberton Fire Department to announce almost $17,835 in funding under the Island Community Fund for new equipment for the Fire Department.

“The purchasing of this new equipment will play a huge role in improving the quality of fire protection services provided to the community of Alberton and surrounding areas. Our government is proud to support this wonderful initiative,” said Minister Bertram.

The project includes the purchasing of extrication tools, which includes a Hurst Power Unit, two 100-foot lengths of hose on reels and an Extractor 2 cutter.

The project will cost almost $23,780, with the provincial Island Community Fund providing $17,835, and the Fire Department contributing the remaining $5,945.

The Island Community Fund is just one component of the over $80 million the province is investing in infrastructure for our one island community.

The Government of Prince Edward Island has committed a total of $27.5 million in Island Community Fund funding for six years. For more information on the program, visit the Infrastructure Secretariat website at www.gov.pe.ca/go/infrastructure.
