Millennium Logo Contest Offers $1000 Prize

Islanders are being issued an invitation to participate in a Millennium Logo Contest with a cash prize of $1000.00 being awarded to the winning artist.

The Provincial Millennium Committee recently announced the contest which focuses on the theme "PEI 2000: Inspired by our past ... embracing our future."

Committee Chairman, Mr. M.T. (Bud) Whelan says, "Islanders are renown for their rich heritage and artistic creativity and interested artists of all ages, both professional and non-professional, are encouraged to submit entries that visually reflect our millennium theme."

All logo submissions must be presented as final "camera ready" artwork and must be suitable for commercial use. Each entry must include the designer's name (school name, if applicable), telephone number, and full mailing address with postal code. Submissions must be received by Friday, April 30, 1999 and can be sent to "The Millennium Committee," P.O. Box 2000, Charlottetown, PEI, C1A 7N8.

One cash prize of $1000.00 will be awarded to the designer of the winning logo, which will become the property of the Millennium Committee and may be refined by a professional graphic designer, if necessary.

The Honourable Wes MacAleer, Minister of Community Services and Attorney General, announced the formation of the Millennium Committee to lead the province in organizing a series of community-based millennium celebrations.

"The Island Millennium Project is dedicated to staging interactive events across the province that bring families together to celebrate the new millennium and acknowledge PEI's unique position as the birthplace of Canada," says Minister MacAleer.

Working along with Chairman Whelan of Charlottetown is Kerri Wynne MacLeod of Montague, Robert Arsenault of Meadowbank, Donald Matheson of Oyster Bed Bridge, Edith MacLean of Central Lot 16, and Jamie Richards of Murray Harbour.
