The minimum wholesale and home delivery prices for drinking milk products, including homogenized milk, partly skimmed 2 percent and 1 percent milk and skim milk, will increase on February 1 by two cents a litre. The increase to producers will be 1.4 cents per litre. The announcement was made today by Ken MacLellan, Chair of the Prince Edward Island Marketing Council.
"The increase in price was made to reflect increased costs that producers and processors face. For example, producers have incurred increased feed costs as a result of the drought last summer," said Mr. MacLellan.
Producer costs are tracked by a national cost of production formula, while processor costs are based on a study carried out in the province.
The full schedule of prices have been published in the Royal Gazette. Retail prices for milk may vary from store to store as the Council does not establish prices at the retail level.
